This book is broken up into various chapters of stupidity Stupid Democrats, Republicans, Atheists, Christians and so on. The “Stupid Criminals” chapter contains one of Jason’s most popular columns that appeared on The Detroit News’ political website. The 2010 column, “Globe Al Warming Gets Rubbed the Wrong Way,” takes on allegations that Gore got horny with a female masseuse in a Portland hotel. That column also continues the sick saga of Otis Mathis, the illiterate (no kidding), former head of Detroit Public Schools who was forced out after he admittedly fondled himself in front of a female superintendent.
No, Vines -- the former top PR guy for Ford and Chrysler -- is not making this up. He coined the Mathis scandal “Masturgate” and it soon became the rage in Detroit media and made his “Wisecracker” column one of the most popular on the site. Vines was named “Top PR Pro” in the auto industry in 1999, 2005 and 2006 by Automotive News, the industry’s lead trade publication.
“Who says conservatives aren’t funny? Jason Vines delivers his smack-down humor without regard to whose nose gets mashed. He punches past political correctness to expose the hypocrisy of the left, the bungling of business and the lameness of our political leadership. If you’re looking for subtlety, don’t look here. Jason is blunt. And he’s right.”
Nolan Finley, Editorial Page Editor, The Detroit News
“I’ve known Jason from his days as a wise acre PR flack for Chrysler through the time when he busted the shackles of restricted speech to finally enjoy the completely unfettered world of editorial writing when we shared the pages of the Detroit News. I’ve always felt that we’ve selfishly hogged his talents to ourselves in Detroit. Much of this book will make you laugh until you cry, but save some of your tears for the realization that what he writes about is all true. That’s what really makes us sob. And only a “wisecracker” like Jason Vines could pull it off.”
Frank Beckmann, writer and host of “The Frank Beckmann Show” on WJR
“Hoffa picks up where Vines’ first book, What Did Jesus Drive?, left off. Profane and hilarious, with no sacred cows for stupidity as far as Jason is concerned. Politicians, sports figures, Atheists, Christians and more, all targets for Jason's exceptional world view. Read the book in one sitting, on a cross-country flight. The person sitting next to me wondered why I was laughing uncontrollably.” Richard Truesdell, freelance automotive journalist

Jimmy Hoffa Called My Mom A Bitch Profiles in Stupidity edition by Jason Vines Politics Social Sciences eBooks Reviews
In the interest of full disclosure, I received a prepublication review/galley copy of this book in exchange for writing an honest review, which I am happy to provide.
Prior to receiving my copy, I had never heard of Jason Vines, much less read any of what he had written. Needless to say, I really didn't know what to expect. Therefore, I was delighted to discover that not only were Jason and I on the same page when it came to most issues, but that his writing is humorous, incisive, to the point, and to some measure iconoclastic. The subtitle of his book is "Profiles in Stupidity," and the book contains short one-half to two page segments where he takes people and policies on all sides of the political, social, and religious spectrum to task for their stupid and bizarre actions, decisions, and words. Each of the fifteen chapters include profiles of different classes of stupid people––stupid criminals, perverts, Democrats, Republicans, dictators, occupiers, atheists, and Christians, to name some of them.
Because the book consists of self-contained, short descriptions of various forms of stupidity, it's possible to pick up this book, read a few of the profiles during a quick break, and put it down again. However, if you're like me, you'll become sufficiently engrossed in Jason's writing that you'll want to keep reading section after section. And, unless you're absolutely without a sense of humor, you'll find yourself occasionally with a wry grin, more often chuckling, but most of the time roaring in laughter as you devour page after page.
The author is a public-relations-guy-turned-columnist. He worked for GM, then for the Detroit Free-Press. Now he's a free lance speaker/ consultant. If you're a regular Fox-watcher and get a belly laugh out of any remark about Obama (as long as it's insulting) you'll whoop your way through this one. If you're on the other side of the political fence, you'll get lots of good, clean fun watching a conservative roasting in the Furnace of Frustration.
For me the most poignant columns were published in the months leading up to the 2012 Presidential election. That was the election that was in the bag (for Republicans) but the bag turned out to be mesh and not even very sturdy mesh. Months of vicious in-fighting had left the GOP bloody, but bizarrely optimistic. How could ANYONE not beat Obama?
In his column dated October 30, 2012, Vines painted a grim picture of what would follow a Democratic victory. "Gas prices will go up again to unprecedented heights, and we WILL fall into another Great Recession. Watch the stock market the day after the election is called. If Obama wins; a historic dive. Rommey prevails; a historic rise." I wish I'd read these stirring predictions before the election, so I'd known how to vote. Now I'm paying under $2 a gallon for gas and my few investments are doing well and my young relatives who've recently graduated from college all have excellent, good-paying jobs and bright futures. I blame Obama.
Surprisingly, his first column after the election appeared on November 7. That's the old Iowa toughness shining through. Most of my conservative friends didn't crawl out from under their beds until the following January. Anyway, I was happy to read that he doesn't blame ME for the election fiasco but Governor Chris Christie ("Tubby" he calls him with a striking lack of originality) who committed the unpardonable sin of being civil to Obama. How DARE he!
And that brings us to something that has me puzzled. Why are conservatives so down on Republicans? Sure, the author takes a few swings at Obama and Biden and the Clintons, but he reserves most of his bile for his fellow Republicans. Reagan said the Golden Rule was "Never criticize another Republican." If the present crop of Republican politicians and conservative commentators were to follow that rule, it would look like they'd taken a collective vow of silence. Make up your own joke.
I wouldn't call Vines a humorist. He's more of a shock-jock-in-print. His columns are long on snark and short on solutions. The fact that his insults sometimes hit the target doesn't get us any closer to solving our problems. As the truly hilarious (and occasionally profound) conservative humorist PJ O'Rourke says, "It's easier to burn down the outhouse than to install indoor plumbing." Amen, brother. Amen.
Funny look at liberal shenanigans.
Book is good. Very sarcastic
