His name was Clifton, but his nickname was Butch. His sister and brother, Lynette and Richard, were nicknamed Sister and Buddy. All three were born in poverty to a mother who was nineteen when she had Clifton in Oklahoma. This story relates how, even through extreme hardship and abuse, her love helped them survive.

Momma Loved Us This I Know eBook Richard Daniel

This book is riveting and really draws you in. It's an amazing story of a boy (the author) with the odds stacked against him, through no fault of his own. It's a bittersweet portrait of a family, that you won't soon forget. I highly recommend this book. You will see what life was like in Oklahoma and Texas in the 1940's and 50's. I really admire the author and his brother and sister. They are an inspiration. It's a true story, well written and held my interest.

Momma Loved Us This I Know eBook Richard Daniel Reviews

This is an inspirational story of a strong willed mother who loved her children more than self. Although she had little formal education, she was a brilliant woman who passed life-changing and life-lasting wisdom to her three children.
'Pretty sure the author wasn't going for "oh, good lord," as the reaction to the poem about God taking seven days to find the angel to make mother at the beginning of the book, nor to astonished laughter at a sentence near the end, "She never found any happiness during her life. Her life was devoted to her children." Oh, dear. Clearly not a professional writer. But a good look into Oklahoma history and family history, and I enjoyed the photographs. It's always good to be reminded that the problems we have today are not new or unusual. I wish the author and his family well.
Heart-rending story of survival. A must read.

Interesting story, but I'm not sure "Momma loved them."
